Baby Quilt

I'm learning how to quilt, since Brian bought me a sewing machine for my birthday last year. I am working on a denim quilt, but once I found out that Dawn & Mike are expecting I set that quilt aside and started looking for a pattern for a baby quilt. One day while I was dragging Bonnie (daughter, not sister) around to fabric stores, we found a sample of a flannel rag quilt for a baby. We both agreed it would be perfect and it looked easy, so I started searching for fabric and instructions for the quilt. Luckily we found out before I bought all my fabric that I needed enough for two quilts, since Dawn & Mike will be having twins!
These pictures are taken before the quilt has been washed. Once it's put through the washer and dryer, all of the little cuts that I made on the edges will fray to create a fringe.
I have the pattern Granny used to make my star quilt, my hope is that some day I'm a good enough quilter to use her pattern to make a quilt. It amazes me that she did all of her quilting by hand, and the stitches were so perfect. I don't think I'll ever be able to do that, but I'm happy to be learning on a sewing machine.

Info Needed

I need to get the correct spelling of great grandpa and great grandma Wilson's (Henry Morda's parents) names. I also need to know the names of Grandpa's brothers and sisters, and the year of birth if anyone knows that too. If you know any of the names that might help me, please send me an email or post the info on here. I've done a lot of updates on the family tree, so make sure you check out the lindk.

Also, be sure to visit Dawn and Mike's surrogacy blog----there's some great news on it!! :)

Family Tree

Hey everyone, I've started working on a family tree. It's really easy to use. If I have an email address for you I've probably already sent you an invitation to visit the website. I'd like to make sure all the info is updated--I need more birthdates & wedding dates for a lot of people. I don't have info for Granny's siblings---Walter, Bob, Maggie etc. and I don't have much info on spouses for some of the grandchildren (Deacon, Joe Wang, Jana Braughton etc). Please email me at cathyadkins@evertek.net if you have any info to add to the tree, or if you have pictures to go with the tree or to post on here.

Thanks!

New Area In Blog...Link to other family blogs

Most of you probably already know Mike and I are doing a surrogacy with Cheryl's sister Jennifer. After the loss of our son do to my illness we decided we could not go through that again because more than likely I would get the illness again. We are currently on our second IVF cycle.

Check out my blog to see what's happened to date and to keep up to date on future events.

I have added a new section on the left side titled "Other family blogs". I have added the link to the blog I created to keep everyone informed about our surrogacy.

If you have a blog you would like to add to the list just let Cat or myself know and we can add it.

My Aunt Ethel

I have so many memories of Ethel, mostly in the early years before she and Joe moved to southern Ohio.

I guess the memory that sticks in my mind more than any is a good/bad memory. Joe and Ethel were living in Columbus on I believe it was West Park. Maw was staying with them then. Bonnie had a date with Jim and Bob and Rodney chose not to take me with them to Green Gables that night (which was okay I guess since we always ended up in trouble when we went). Joe was on the road driving that big 'ole truck and that left Maw, Ethel and me there for the weekend. We had been stringing half runners all day. Ethel said her mom could eat more green beans than anyone she ever knew. Well, me being the hard headed little girl that I was decided to make history and try to eat more half runners than Maw. So Ethel cooked up a big old pressure cooker of half runners and the eating contest was on.

First bowl for Maw and first bowl for me......second bowl for Maw and second bowl for me. We were up to our fifth bowl.....I could see it in her eyes....Maw was starting to buckle....but I was determined to eat more, I wanted to make Ethel proud. I could feel my stomach churn and ache from the pressure....Ethel was cracking up in the kitchen and looking for a big brown paper bag yelling hold on hold on. She knew I was ready to blow and blow I did! I remember Ethel holding my head up by my ponytail so I wouldn't fall head first into the bag. Right then I knew she was not only the greatest person in the world but also at that moment my savior.

I loved spending the weekends at Joe and Ethel's. I'll never forget those times as long as I live. I'll forever love my Aunt Ethel and half runner beans as well. Thanks for all the memories.
